THE BOX PROJECT
Sculpture / Artefact — Protest in a Box
PROJECT
OVERVIEW
Exploring Protest Through Sculpture
The Box Project explores how political and social ideas can be expressed through a small artefact or sculptural form.
I developed my concept around the theme of protest, researching political artists to inspire my design choices. The box serves as a container of meaning — a symbolic space for visual protest.
ARTIST
RESEARCH
Banksy & Peter Kennard
For my research, I focused on artists who use their work to challenge authority and social systems.
Banksy uses street art and stencilled imagery to communicate anti-establishment messages. His rats, for instance, symbolise the invisible and oppressed.
Peter Kennard works with photomontage, combining political imagery to expose injustice and corruption. His style of layering and visual metaphor inspired my composition and concept.
THE DIGITAL
PRISON
Protest in a Box
My final piece represents a protest against the control and confinement created by social media.
The artefact shows a man handcuffed with social media icons, symbolising how technology can imprison us in cycles of comparison, addiction, and digital dependence.
Inspired by Banksy’s symbolism and Kennard’s photomontage style, I designed this piece to reflect the loss of freedom in a hyperconnected world.
